In Memoriam: Dr. Maelor Vallance, Clinical Professor Emeritus

 

The Department is very saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Maelor Vallance, Clinical Professor Emeritus, on April 10, 2021.

Upon moving to Vancouver from Scotland in 1965, Dr. Vallance accepted a position at Riverview Hospital and was subsequently appointed to the UBC Department of Psychiatry. As a clinical faculty member, he dedicated the next several decades to teaching and mentoring countless students, residents and junior colleagues. As a renowned forensic psychistrist, Dr. Vallance provided expert opinions for thousands of criminal and personal injury cases over the course of his 50+ year career. He also served in a number of prominent roles, including as the Clinical Director for UBC Psychiatry, as Chairman of the Forensic Psychiatric Commission, and as a lay bencher of the Law Society of British Columbia, attaining the status of life bencher.
