Dear Department members,
It is with mixed feelings that we announce the departure of Amity Chiang from her position as the Assistant Human Resources Manager in the UBC Department of Psychiatry Administration Office, as she has accepted a new position as an HR Coordinator at UBC Library. Amity’s last working day in the Department of Psychiatry will be Friday May 21. We are thrilled for her as she embarks on this exciting new career opportunity, however we will deeply miss her positive energy, her wonderful work ethic, and the outstanding support she provided to her colleagues and all faculty, staff, and students across the Department.
Amity first joined the Department as a Finance Assistant in February 2012, then transitioned to the role of HR Assistant in December 2013. As the HR Assistant, Amity provided superb administrative and human resources support to staff, students and fellows, and was the deserving recipient of a Staff Service Award in both 2014 and 2017. In 2018, she was promoted to the position of Assistant HR Manager, and in this role, she assumed a higher level of responsibility in overseeing HR processes for all Department members, including the faculty portfolio in 2019. During her nine years as a core member of our Psychiatry Administrative team, Amity built a high degree of trust with everyone she interacted with, fostered a friendly, cooperative and inclusive work environment, and formed great relationships with her co-workers, Department members, as well as with colleagues from external units across the Faculty of Medicine.
Upon Amity’s departure, we wish to also announce the exciting news that our current HR Assistant, Bree Wilson, has been promoted to the position of Assistant HR Manager effective June 1, 2021. Since joining the Department in 2019, Bree has continued to build a strong foundation of knowledge in Department administrative policies and procedures, and has proven to be an excellent candidate for this role. She will be assuming all duties and responsibilities previously overseen by Amity, and may continue to be reached at email@example.com. While we are recruiting for the HR Assistant role, Tanvi Chawla has been assigned to us from Hiring Solutions as the interim HR Assistant, and she can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to the updates on the HR team, we wish to warmly welcome to our Psychiatry Education team Richa Sharma, who started as our new UGE Program Assistant on May 3. She can be reached at Richas.Sharma@ubc.ca. We are also excited to announce that Niki Ward will be joining our Education team as our SSP Education Coordinator. Niki will begin in her role on May 27 and she could be reached at Niki.Ward@ubc.ca. Meanwhile, please continue to submit inquiries to email@example.com for any Psychiatry SSP matters until May 26.
On behalf of the entire Department, I wish to thank Amity for all her hard work, dedication, and for the many significant and valuable contributions she has made to our Department over the last nine years. Please join me in congratulating and sending our best wishes to Amity in her new position! Please also join me in congratulating Bree on her promotion to Assistant HR Manager, and welcoming Richa and Niki to their new roles in the Department!
