We are thrilled to share that Dr. Daniel Vigo has received a 2021 Faculty of Medicine Distinguished Achievement Award in the category of Overall Excellence – Early Career!
This annual award recognizes faculty at the Assistant Professor level who have made outstanding contributions in research, education, and service, areas in which Dr. Vigo has demonstrated exemplary performance. Since his appointment to the Department in 2019, he has continued to be extremely productive, publishing eleven papers in 2020 alone in such prominent journals as JAMA Psychiatry, and authoring impactful reports for the World Health Organization (WHO).
Dr. Vigo has also been engaged in the development of e-health strategies for university students, leading a collaborative network of researchers at UBC, SFU, the University of Toronto, McMaster, and Harvard to develop e-mental health screening and treatment tools that can be integrated into university health services. This multisite trial for online detection and intervention approaches to mental health and substance use in university students has been awarded significant grants from Health Canada. Dr. Vigo continues to spearhead the development of a novel applied research portfolio in the areas of psychiatric epidemiology, mental health systems, and mental health data science, and is playing a key role in consolidating partnerships between UBC Psychiatry, UBC SPPH, and the Ministries of Health and of Mental Health and Addictions, the Provincial Health Authorities, and other public health agencies. He also maintains important and productive collaborations with global leaders in the field, and currently leads or co-leads several other collaborations of global scope.
Further, Dr. Vigo has been highly involved in graduate supervision and program development, and participates on numerous editorial boards and advisory committees, including as Chair of a policy workgroup for WHO and Harvard, and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Mental Health Systems (Springer-Nature).
Congratulations to Dr. Vigo on this well-deserved recognition!
