The Department would like to congratulate Dr. Christian Schütz on his promotion to the rank of Professor (Partner), effective July 1, 2021.
Dr. Schütz has been an academic faculty member in the UBC Department of Psychiatry since 2009, and is also a Research Scientist at the UBC Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences (CHEOS) and the Research and Education Medical Manager at the Burnaby Center for Mental Health and Addiction. He leads the BRAIN Lab, where his research team investigates the psycho-neurobiological mechanisms underlying cognitive, affective, and stress-associated aspects of decision-making and impulsivity, specifically related to substance use disorders and concurrent mental disorders. He is the recipient of various notable awards, including the NARSAD Independent Investigator Award from the Brain and Behavior Foundation in 2017, and the UBC FoM Outstanding Academic Award in 2018 in recognition of significant achievement and productivity in his field.
In addition to his many contributions to our education programs, Dr. Schütz is an active participant in various committees within the Department and Health Authorities, serving for a number of terms on the UBC Psychiatry Departmental Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committee and the PHSA BCMHSUS Research Committee. He has also provided expert consultation for the Vancouver Coastal Health Guidelines for Addiction Medicine in 2015, and has contributed to various other teams and working groups in the development of practice guidelines addressing the public health crisis arising from substance misuse in BC and across Canada.
