December 2021 Update from the Department of Psychiatry Research and Scholarly Activity Committee



Warm wishes from the Department’s Research and Scholarly Activity Committee! We are pleased to provide you with our final communication of 2021; we have five updates for you.

  1. We have scheduled our committee meeting dates for 2022, which are as follows:
    • February 17th 2022 (submission deadline February 10th)
    • April 21st 2022 (submission deadline April 14th)
    • September 22nd 2022 (submission deadline Sept 15th)
    • November 17th 2022 (submission deadline November 10th)

** Please note that the committee requires submissions of abstracts/final reports to be made one week in advance of the meeting to enable a thorough review of all the documents, thank you.

  1. Faculty members, we have residents looking for supervisors in the following areas:
    • A PGY-1 is looking for a supervisor in the area of weight bias/stigmatization and/or compassion-focused obesity care or related topics (please contact Erin Michalak who will connect you)
    • A PGY-3 is looking for a supervisor with an interest in ADHD (please contact Erin Michalak who will connect you)
  2. Residents, we have faculty members seeking residents in the following areas:
    • Anyssa Shakeri is seeking a psychiatry resident to work along side a medicine resident to develop educational material about the HCCA vs MHA – essentially a module that will be added to the learning hub. There will be opportunities to do education in a variety of settings (if desired) on this material as well. Please contact Dr. Shakeri direct for more details via

** The Research and Scholarly Activity Committee is responsible for ensuring that our department’s residency program meets Royal College training objectives for research and scholarly activity. Specific responsibilities include the identification, development, enhancement, promotion, monitoring and evaluation of resident scholarly activity projects, and ensuring that objectives relating to research and scholarly activity are integrated throughout our educational program. The committee meets quarterly, at which time resident submissions of their project abstract submissions and final scholarly activity reports are reviewed.
