2021 in Review: Don’t Miss the UBC Department of Psychiatry Annual Newsletter!

Dear colleagues, staff, students, and residents,

As we approach the end of 2021, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of you for your support and for working extremely hard to achieve the many high goals we set for the Department this year. Throughout the year, all of you in your various roles in supporting the Department have demonstrated a great deal of resilience and adaptability to overcome the many persistent disruptions of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and for your collective efforts, I sincerely thank you. Because of your dedication to the continuity and success of our research activities, education programs, and administrative operations, we have many proud accomplishments to note and I am delighted to capture the highlights here in the UBC Department of Psychiatry 2021 Year End Newsletter.

A particular milestone was the release of the 2020-2025 UBC Psychiatry Strategic Plan last June, which has served as the foundation for developing our strategic objectives and plans for execution for the immediate future and the years ahead.  In the last 12 months alone, we have made strong progress in virtually every action area defined under the four pillars of the plan, the details of which are summarized within these pages.  As the Department continues to pursue new opportunities, partnerships and resources that will foster discovery and research translation, we remain focused on expanding our capacity to train future generations of clinicians, scientists and academics who are pursuing careers in mental health care and research. All the while, the Department reaffirms its commitment to uphold our shared values of equity, diversity, and inclusion for everyone working in our offices, learning and research spaces, and across our interconnected networks and communities.

As 2021 has proven to be a uniquely challenging year, we have even more reason to be proud of our accomplishments. I look to the New Year with a renewed sense of purpose and determination, and with your continued support and dedication, I have no doubt we will be able to achieve our shared mission and objectives for the Department in 2022.

I wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season!

Sincerely,
