Feedback Requested on Department Divisional Restructure

Dear Department members,

In late 2021 the Department Advisory Committee held a full-day meeting to discuss, among other issues of strategic importance, a proposal to review and refresh the Department’s current divisional structure in order to more accurately reflect the organizational function and accountabilities of our divisions, as well as our programs.

The discussions, led by Associate Heads Dr. Raymond Lam and Dr. Sophia Frangou, resulted in a consensus on the criteria for the divisions and programs comprising the refreshed divisional structure, which will include a new reporting structure between these groups.  The following Divisions have been proposed based on the criteria discussed, each of which will be provided with administrative support and will retain a Division Head who will receive a small stipend:

  • Neuroscience & Translational Psychiatry Division
  • Child & Youth Mental Health Division
  • Forensic Psychiatry Division
  • Geriatric Psychiatry Division
  • Substance Use & Concurrent Disorders Division
  • Adult Psychiatry & Mental Health Services Division

Currently, all existing programs are under review, and new programs as well as a new reporting structure to divisions will be proposed and shared pending further discussion and consultation.

At this time, we are soliciting Department-wide input and feedback regarding the proposed Divisions above, which will guide the overall restructure of our Divisions and Programs. We ask that you please forward your comments to Vicky Yau, Director, Administration, at vicky.yau@ubc.ca by February 18, 2022.

We thank you in advance for your engagement, as your feedback will be valuable in informing our discussions as we move forward with this important process.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lakshmi N. Yatham, Professor and Head, UBC Department of Psychiatry
Dr. Raymond Lam, Professor and Associate Head, Graduate & UG Education, UBC Department of Psychiatry
Dr. Sophia Frangou, Professor and Associate Head, Research & International Affairs, UBC Department of Psychiatry
