Dear Faculty,
The Faculty of Medicine is launching an internal selection process to nominate two faculty members for the 2025 UBC Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship (KARF) competition. These annual fellowships are intended to support exceptional early career researchers across all disciplines who have the potential for significant impact in their field of scholarship and are ready to launch the next stage of their career. Self-nominations for the internal competition are permitted, but final nominations must be submitted by the FoM Dean.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
- One-time research allowance of $50,000 will be awarded for the two-year term of the award.
- Teaching time release, funding of $60,000 will also be provided to the awardee’s academic unit over the two-year period to help offset the teaching load;
- Faculty of Medicine is limited to two nominees to put forward;
- Full-time recently-tenured (within 3-4 years) faculty members are eligible to be nominated;
- FoM internal selection deadline: October 21, 2025
- Nomination deadline: November 15, 2025
Self-nomination for the internal competition is permitted. Please submit the following items by the internal selection deadline (October 21) to evelina.tolstykh@ubc.ca:
- Nomination form (required, 1 page) – including nominee information, citation and Department’s support statement.
- Statement (required, 2,400 words max)
- References (optional, 2 pages)
- Research impact (required, 1 page)
- Contextual perspective (required, 1 page)
- Letters of support (required, 3 letters) – from arm’s-length referees, at least two of the letters must be from individuals from outside UBC.
- CV (required)
- Confirmation of support from Department Head/School Director (email is sufficient, required)
