On behalf of the Department Awards & Recognition Committee, I would like to share some upcoming award opportunities and extend a department-wide call for self-nominations or nominations of your fellow colleagues who are deserving of recognition in their respective fields:
- UBC Killam Teaching Prize: FoM Internal Deadline is January 30, 2026
- CIHR-CPA Glenda M. MacQueen Memorial Career Development Award for Women in Psychiatry: Nomination Deadline is February 1, 2026
- CPA Paul Patterson Innovation in Education Leadership Award: Nomination Deadline is February 1, 2026
- CPA J. M. Cleghorn Award for Excellence and Leadership in Clinical Research: Nomination Deadline is February 1, 2026
- CPA C. A. Roberts Award for Clinical Leadership: Nomination Deadline is February 1, 2026
- CPA Early Career Achievement in Psychiatry Award: Nomination Deadline is February 1, 2026
- CPA Early Career Psychiatrist Research Award: Nomination Deadline is February 1, 2026

** Please note that the Margolese National Brain Disorders Prize was awarded to a UBC member in 2023, and therefore another UBC member will not be eligible until 2029. **

Adjudication of Nominations Process
If you are interested in a self-nomination or nominating a colleague, please submit your nomination to Margaret Koshi, Director, Administration (margaret.koshi@ubc.ca) at least 6 weeks prior to the respective deadline. The Committee’s nominations process has four stages:
- Nominations, including a brief rationale and a CV of the nominee, emailed to Margaret
- Nominees’ CVs and other relevant documents will be reviewedby the Committee against respective award criteria and adjudicated accordingly
- Recommendations and feedback will be provided to potential nominees and self-nominees to enhance their chances of success
- Nominations letters and packages will be prepared and selected candidates will be put forward by the Administrative team, per the respective award nominations procedures

Committee Mandate:
The Department of Psychiatry Awards & Recognition Committee was established to proactively recommend deserving faculty members of the Department for nomination for notable meritorious awards and honours within the Faculty of Medicine and the University, and for significant external awards. By ensuring that outstanding faculty members are duly nominated whilst upholding departmental values of EDI, the Committee will strive to promote a culture of broad, inclusive and diverse recognition.
