Congratulations to Dr. Carole Richford, recipient of the CACLP Distinguished Contribution to CL Psychiatry in Canada Award

Congratulations to UBC Department of Psychiatry Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Carole Richford, who has been recognized with a Canadian Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CACLP) Distinguished Contribution to CL Psychiatry in Canada Award. The award is presented annually to a CACLP member who, over the course of their career, has made a distinguished contribution to the field of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry in Canada.

Dr. Richford started her career in Nursing before switching to Medicine and obtaining her MD and then Psychiatry training from the University of British Columbia. She has worked in many areas of Psychiatry and has a keen interest in Psycho-oncology, Addiction Psychiatry, Cardiac Psychiatry and General Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She is currently on staff at Vancouver General Hospital and BC Cancer – Vancouver. She is Co-Medical Manager of the Complex Pain and Addiction Service at VGH and consulting psychiatrist for BC Cancer. She previously was the lead for Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry for much of her career and held the role of Division Head of Consultation-Liaison at St. Paul’s Hospital. She and her team were active in research on delirium. Dr. Richford enjoys teaching all levels of medical students, residents and fellows. She is also a Diplomate with the American Board of Addiction Medicine and was President of the BC Psychiatric Association.
