UBC PSYCHIATRY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN UNDERGRADUATE CLINICAL TEACHING
Recognizing clinical faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to teaching, mentoring, and serving the students in the MD Undergraduate Program.
2020 AWARD RECIPIENTS
Dr. Paul Blackburn
Dr. Paul Blackburn joined the clinical faculty of the Department of Psychiatry in 2015, and has served as a Clinical Faculty Representative for the Psychiatry Undergraduate Program since 2016. Over the last five years, he has been actively engaged in clinical skills teaching and providing Academic Half Day lectures to Year 3 medical students. Dr. Blackburn has received outstanding ratings from his students, who have remarked that he is an exceptionally kind, supportive, and enthusiastic teacher. Dr. Blackburn is being recognized this year for the overall positive impact he has made on his students and to the Psychiatry UGE Program.
Dr. Andrea Chapman
Dr. Andrea Chapman is a Clinical Professor who joined the Department of Psychiatry in 2005. Since 2013, she has also served as the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Subspecialty Program Director. As a clinical teacher, Dr. Chapman has continued to supervise medical students, residents and fellows on a daily basis, providing well over 150 hours per year of direct supervision. She consistently receives high scores from her students, who describe her as an amazing role model for patient-centred care. The Department is pleased to formally recognize her for her notable contributions to the Psychiatry UGE Program.
Dr. Jeffrey Douziech
Dr. Jeffery Douziech joined the Department of Psychiatry as a Clinical Instructor in 2017, and over the last three years, has been actively engaged in teaching medical students in the Southern Medical Program. By all accounts, he has gone above and beyond to provide the best educational experiences to his learners. They have praised the safe learning environment and the excellent balance of supervision and independence he has provided, and his role-modelling of compassionate patient care. Given his exemplary contribution to teaching in the Psychiatry UGE Program, Dr. Douziech is a very deserving recipient of this award.
Dr. Kathryn Fung
Dr. Kathryn Fung is a Clinical Associate Professor who joined the Department of Psychiatry in 2009, and has served as the Program Director for the Psychiatry Undergraduate Program since 2016. She has contributed significantly to clinical skills teaching to Year 3 medical students over the years, and based on her outstanding evaluations and enthusiastic remarks from students, Dr. Fung has clearly made a significant and positive impact in the MD Undergraduate Program. She is therefore a very deserving recipient of this award.
