The Vancouver Coastal Health Authority in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, and with support from the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, invites applications for a position as a full-time clinician scientist. The position will have protected academic time and will include an appropriate academic appointment in the UBC Department of Psychiatry. This position is expected to be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor

The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure as a Psychiatrist by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. The successful applicant must have appropriate qualifications and meet UBC criteria for an academic appointment. She/He will be required to provide evidence of ability in scholarly activity and teaching.

She/He must have an established track record of research relevant to the field of Neuropsychiatry with either a clinical (e.g. neuropsychiatry of brain trauma) or basic science focus (e.g. brain imaging). The successful candidate will have training in research methodology and have publications in peer reviewed journals. She/He will be expected to contribute to the university community with responsibilities in research, teaching and service, depending upon the appointed rank.

The major focus of her/his time will be dedicated to research. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment, and needs to be able to establish collaborative working relationships with clinicians and research groups committed to related research. The appointment is for a 5 year period with the successful applicant having an opportunity to apply for appropriate tenure stream positions at the end of this period.

The BC Neuropsychiatry Program is the largest neuropsychiatry program of its kind in Canada (eight neuropsychiatrists, a behavioral neurologist, and neuropsychologist), and is the first Canadian program to receive fellowship accreditation by the UCNS. UBC has very strong bench neuroscience, molecular genetics, neuroimaging, MS and dementia research programs. The position is based on the main UBC campus in Vancouver, a vibrant multicultural city abounding with cultural and recreational opportunities and which The Economist has deemed to be the world’s most livable city for the past five years.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
