Sent on behalf of Dean Gavin Stuart
To members of the UBC Faculty of Medicine:
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Liston has been appointed Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs effective today, November 15, 2011 to November 14, 2012.
Dr. Liston, Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, came to the UBC Faculty of Medicine in 1998. He assumed the role of Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology from 2000 to 2010. In this role, Dr. Liston reframed clinical teaching in the MD undergraduate curriculum, advocated for expansion of the postgraduate program, and has been a champion of distributed education. His research focuses on maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, with studies supported by CIHR. He is the Co – Lead of the Canadian Perinatal Network.
The appointment of Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs follows the systematic review of the former position of Executive Associate Dean, Community and Clinical Partnerships. Based on this review and the evolving needs of the Faculty, the nature and requirements of the role were adapted in order to optimally support the activities of the academic units within the Faculty of Medicine.
As Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs, Dr. Liston will provide strategic coordination and leadership between the Faculty of Medicine and the Health Authorities. Working with the provincial government, other Universities, agencies and other public sector institutions, he will strengthen and support those faculty members engaged in clinical activities throughout the Province. Dr. Liston will provide oversight of the Office of Clinical Faculty Affairs and will be a key member of the Faculty’s executive management team.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Robert Liston to his new appointment in the Faculty of Medicine.
Gavin C.E. Stuart, MD, FRCSC
Dean, Faculty of Medicine
