Sent on behalf of Dean Gavin Stuart
To members of the UBC Faculty of Medicine:
I am pleased to announce that Dr. David Snadden has been appointed Executive Associate Dean, Education, effective November 1, 2011 to June 30, 2016.
Dr. Snadden has led the Northern Medical Program since its beginning and has served as the Regional Associate Dean, Northern British Columbia since July 2008. In these roles, Dr. Snadden has worked with the University of Northern British Columbia and Northern Health to develop and implement the Northern Medical Program which has now graduated four classes and led the expansion of postgraduate medical education in the north. He has been Acting Co-Executive Associate Dean, Education since August 2010. Dr. Snadden is also a member of the Department of Family Practice and Co-Chair of the MD Undergraduate Program Curriculum Renewal Task Force.
In his new role as Executive Associate Dean, Education, Dr. Snadden will provide strategic leadership for education programs within the Faculty of Medicine, working with our partners to enhance health education and to contribute to our international reputation for excellence in health sciences education. He will continue to reside in Prince George, based at UNBC campus and will be a key member of the Faculty’s executive management team. I believe this truly reflects our mandate and commitment to a provincial UBC Faculty of Medicine.
I wish to thank both Dr. Kamal Rungta and Dr. Oscar Casiro, who have also been serving as Acting Co-Executive Associate Dean, Education with Dr. Snadden, for their leadership and support during the recruitment process. I am pleased that Dr. Rungta will continue in a leadership capacity and Dr. Casiro will continue in his role as Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Island, and I look forward to their continued contributions to the Faculty of Medicine.
Further, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Geoff Payne has been appointed Interim Regional Associate Dean, Northern BC, effective November 1, 2011. Dr. Payne has worked with the Northern Medical Program since 2004 and was appointed Assistant Dean, NMP in July 2009. During his tenure, Dr. Payne has been actively engaged in developing the research platforms of the NMP and its partners. A formal search to appoint a permanent Regional Associate Dean is underway.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. David Snadden and Dr. Geoff Payne to their new leadership positions.
