Dr. Verena Strehlau is a Psychiatry resident at the University of British Columbia. During her postdoctoral fellowship, she worked on the Hotel Study, a large, longitudinal study about the situations of people living in single-room occupancy hotels in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. She was also a Co-Investigator of At Home/Chez Soi, a large, multi-site research demonstration project on mental health and homelessness funded by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. Her current academic endeavours include research on mental health, substance use, and concurrent disorders. Dr. Strehlau is particularly interested in the improvement of interventions for people with multiple struggles, such as homelessness, substance use, and mental health issues, and in work on meaningful translations of research into practical applications.
