Summary
Led by UBC’s Advanced Research Computing (ARC) Research Cybersecurity and Compliance team, this webinar introduces core principles of Research Cybersecurity, combining an overview of the ARC Research Cybersecurity and Compliance services with practical guidance for tasks such as data transfers, application development and remote data collection. Participants will learn about Security Threat Risk Assessments and System Security Plans, alongside concrete steps they can take to reduce risk and make informed, responsible decisions in an increasingly complex digital landscape.

Jessica Galo is a Research Cybersecurity and Compliance Specialist with the UBC Advanced Research Computing (ARC) and is a member of the Training and Awareness Working group with the Digital Research Alliance of Canada. At ARC, Jessica is involved in research cybersecurity and privacy assessments and consultation and training. Jessica holds a Canadian Institute of Access and Privacy Professionals (CIAPP) – Professional designation as well as an ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) designation.

Scott Baker manages the Research Cybersecurity and Compliance team at UBC Advanced Research Computing and is a member of the program leadership committee for Privacy & Information Security Management at UBC. He also chairs the governance and policy working group of the National Security Council of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada.
