Dear Whom It May Concern,
We appreciate you agreeing to serve as a referee for a resident regarding their application to the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Subspecialty Training Program within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia.
Our Postgraduate Committee’s selection and ranking process calls for confidential evaluations of the candidate’s clinical, academic, interpersonal and professional capacities regarding their potential suitability for such subspecialty training. A learned reference evaluation from you will be an important part of our considering this application. Your reference will be seen by the Program Director and the members of the Selection Committee, and it will be held in the strictest confidence.
We therefore would appreciate it if you would evaluate on a confidential basis, the resident’s suitability from the point of view of whether:
1) based on your direct observation and experience, they have the appropriate competencies and attributes to meet the rigorous training challenges inherent to a demanding subspecialty training milieu; and
2) they potentially represent being a significant contributor to the advancement of the field of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at a local, national and/or international level. Where possible, please consider your seeing their potential contribution to the field.
Please indicate your relationship with the applicant and declare if you have any potential conflict(s) of interest in providing your reference.
Attached please find the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Subspecialty Training Program Applicant Reference Form, which we request you return to us. In addition, should you wish, we would also welcome further comments from you in a more traditional reference letter format that will assist our deliberations.
Please return your reference material to us by the application deadline. The letter should be emailed to the Subspecialty Education Coordinator (email@example.com). References received after the application deadline may compromise your consideration for this program.
We appreciate your assistance with this very important process.
Dr. Jennifer Russel
