VGH, DHCC & UBC Hospital Staff and Faculty: Closures

UBC Hospital Power Shutdown Affecting Detwiller, Koerner and Purdy Pavilions on Saturday May 4, 2024. **All staff must log off on their computers when leaving on Friday May 3.

Hydro power will be temporarily shut down from Saturday May 4, 2024 from 6:00am to 10:00pm to support UBC campus and BC Hydro electrical distribution changes. Only emergency power will be available during this time. Refer to the poster for more information about emergency power outlets.


VGH OR Phase 2 – Laurel Street Crane Lift and Road Closure: Saturday May 4th, 6am-6pm

The upcoming VCH crane lift and road closure along Laurel street, is scheduled for Saturday May 4th, 6am-6pm.

• A section of Laurel Street, between West 10th Avenue and West 12th Avenue, will be closed to vehicles during this time. 

• Parking underground will be closed for the entirely from, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (18:00) both the days. This means no vehicles in or out.

• The loading bay can be accessed from 12th Ave.

• The roundabout will remain open for patient pick up, drop off and vehicles to turn around.

• There will be traffic management personnel and signage on the day to help direct drivers & pedestrians

•  Some of the street parking along Laurel will be a temporary unavailable during this time to allow this work appropriate space. Please look out for street signage confirming which stalls are not available. Do not leave your vehicle parked in these spots overnight on Friday May 3rd into Saturday morning as the vehicle will be towed at owner’s expense.

• The sidewalk along GLDHCC will remain open.

The Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre will be closed on Sunday, May 5th,  2024 for mandatory electrical maintenance.

Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 9:00am to 8:00pm.

The entire facility must be closed and there will be zero entry or occupancy permitted during the outages.

BC Hydro have now provided the Guarantee of Isolation dates to Accurate Power Group for the two mandatory electrical shutdowns planned for March and May of 2024. There will be no electrical power supplied to any area within the GLDHCC and the Parkade beneath during these two outages estimated at 11 hours each. Security will be on site at the main entrance only to accommodate brief escorted emergency access for the SOT Clinic (and others if directed by the VGH AOC) if required.
