Short Biography

Dr. Anson Koo has been the Associate Head for Clinical Affairs & Partnerships in the UBC Department of Psychiatry since 2019. In this role, Dr. Koo provides strategic leadership related to clinical faculty issues and partnerships with Health Authorities, the Ministries, and other external stakeholders. Dr. Koo is actively involved in UBC Department of Psychiatry education programs, serving as the Discipline Specific Site Leader (DSSL) for Undergraduate Medical Education in Psychiatry at the Royal Columbian Hospital, and a supervisor of students and residents.

Externally, Dr. Koo holds the positions of Regional Department Head of Psychiatry and Program Medical Director for the Mental Health and Psychiatry Program in the Fraser Health Authority. In this leadership capacity, he has provided operational and medical leadership during a period of significant growth and investment in Mental Health and Psychiatry clinical programs in Fraser Health. He has led the development of a regional network of teaching sites and academic faculty, and creation of a UBC distributed residency training track, expanding psychiatric medical education and research across the Fraser Health Authority.

Clinical Focus

Dr. Koo’s clinical focus lies in adult psychiatry and inpatient psychiatry, and his broader areas of interest include medical education and medical administration.
