Short Biography

Dr. Barinder Singh is a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Department of Psychiatry, and was appointed as the Associate Program Director for Postgraduate Forensic Psychiatry Subspecialty in 2021. In this role, she has supported the new Program Director in carrying out duties to ensure the Subspecialty training program not only meets the Royal College standards and objectives of training, but also aligns with provincial priorities for forensic psychiatry care.  Her responsibilities also include assisting with program development, review, and quality oversight, as well as research development, curriculum review and coordination, and faculty development with respect to Competence by Design (CBD).

A Department member since 2016, Dr. Singh practices primarily at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital, where she previously served as Interim Medical Director from 2020-2021. In addition to holding FRCPC subspecialty certification in Forensic Psychiatry, she also holds a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University.  

Clinical Focus

Dr. Singh’s clinical and research focus lies in Forensic Psychiatry and related areas, including seclusion and segregation, and using art therapy in healing.
