Short Biography

Dr. Joseph Tham is a Clinical Associate Professor in the UBC Department of Psychiatry, as well as the Department representative and key liaison serving on behalf of our clinical faculty on the Faculty of Medicine Clinical Faculty Advisory Council since 2021. In this role, he has been responsible for advocating for the broad interests of our 700+ clinical faculty, identifying and bringing forward key issues at bimonthly meetings, and developing and recommending strategies to address these issues. As a member of our Department since 2003, Dr. Tham is very active in both teaching and research activities.  He is a specialist in neuropsychiatry, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), neurostimulation, ketamine treatment, and is currently the ECT Coordinator at UBC Hospital, the Physician Lead in the Alder Unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital, and also the Associate Medical Manager for the BC Neuropsychiatry Program.

Clinical Focus

General neuropsychiatry; psychiatric comorbidities & cognitive effects of multiple sclerosis; functional neurological & somatic symptom disorders; traumatic brain injury; neurostimulation; ketamine & psychedelic agents in psychiatric treatment.
