Short Biography

Dr. Karlinsky is the Series Director of Frames of Mind, a monthly film series promoting professional and community education on issues pertaining to mental health and illness, and has been a member of the UBC Department of Psychiatry for over 30 years. He has a longstanding commitment to professional and public education and has presented nationally and internationally on topics ranging from Alzheimer’s disease to information technology to narrative medicine to PTSD and to the use of films in health care education.

  • 2006 inaugural Innovation in CME/CPD Award, UBC Faculty of Medicine

Short Biography

Dr. Barbara Kane is a Consulting Psychiatrist at UHNBC who has served as Medical Lead for the Northern Health Mental Health Program since 2018. She is also a representative for the BC Psychiatric Association Northern Region and an Examiner for Psychiatry at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Previously, Dr. Kane served as Department Head of Psychiatry at UHNBC. She is the recipient of the BC Psychiatric Association Outstanding Lifetime Community Service Award in 2020, and elected as a Distinguished Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association in 2022.

Dr. Kane has been a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Psychiatry since 2006, and currently serves on the UBC Psychiatry Executive Committee.

Clinical Focus

Dr. Kane’s practice is in general adult psychiatry, with a focus on serious and persistent mental illness and addictions.
