Each year, the Faculty of Medicine recognizes faculty and staff members for excellence in teaching, research, administration, innovation and public service. Please join us in congratulating four UBC Department of Psychiatry members among this year’s recipients:
Ms. Vanessa Evans, Applegarth Staff Service Award
Ms. Evans is a Research Coordinator for the Mood Disorders Centre led by Dr. Raymond Lam. She has been a member of the Department since 2014, and has played a key role in supporting Dr. Lam’s research and collaborative initiatives in depression, digital mental health and mental health equity, and international mental health initiatives.
Dr. Mahesh Menon, Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Research
Dr. Menon is a Clinical Professor and a Co-Head of the Schizophrenia Program in the UBC Department of Psychiatry. A psychologist with Vancouver Coastal Health, he leads the Psychosocial Interventions for Functional Improvement (PSI-FI) Lab, where his research focuses on psychosocial interventions for severe mental illness and the cognitive and neural basis of delusions and hallucinations in psychosis. His research has received support from CIHR, BBRF and other major funding organizations.
Dr. Leona Adams, Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Advancing Equity, Diversity and Inclusiveness
Dr. Adams is a Clinical Associate Professor who serves as a Faculty Co-Lead for Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (AREDI) within UBC Postgraduate Medical Education. She has done significant work contributing to initiatives that support anti-racism, equity and inclusive learning environments, including anti-racism resources for faculty and residents, such as the Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Guidelines for Selections implemented by PGME in 2025/2026.
Dr. Randall White, Award for Distinguished Service to CME/CPD
Dr. White is a Clinical Professor and the Division Head for Adult Psychiatry & Mental Health Services, leading and working in collaboration with its members to develop and implement academic goals, objectives and long-range plans to meet the strategic goals and mission of the Division, the Department and FoM. He has co-chaired the Annual Pacific Psychopharmacology Conference since 2013, developed CME for UBC CPD and Medscape.com, and received numerous teaching awards and honours. In 2026, he was appointed Chair of the Canadian Psychiatric Association’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee.
